Each week on Wedding Wednesday, we feature brides as they plan one of the most exciting days of their life. To kick off this series, I'd like to share my journey to the altar—as I'm not just a wedding consultant, I ordered my own custom wedding invitations from Live Love Last by: PlasticPrinters.

This week, I'd like to share what I learned about when looking for the perfect place to hold my wedding. I'll be honest, venue hunting was not my favorite, but it's a important part of the wedding planning process.

From styling of the facility, to the timings on the day, a lot of decisions go into choosing your wedding venue. It's a huge task, so it's important to stay positive and to not get discouraged. The key for me was remembering that the wedding is "my day" and I should have fun with it!

Here are a few tips I have after searching for the perfect place to have my own wedding:

1. Traditional or Non-traditional

What does your wedding style look to you?! Your wedding venue will reflect you, your spouse and your style. Whether you choose something more traditional (hotel or golf club), or something non-traditional (barns or art gallery), the venue should fit you and your significant other.

2. What are your wedding needs?

This is all in the details of your wedding. When considering a wedding venue, keep these details in mind.

How many guests will you need it to hold? What is included in the costs (catering, decorations, etc)? Allowed to bring in your own food? Are the bar options included with the price? How will guests arrive and depart from you venue? Plenty of parking? Is everything handicap accesible?

Also, make sure to ask about venue restrictions on decorating or what you are allowed to bring in. Many venues do not allow real candles or glitter. Are there other decorating restrictions?

3. Visit the locations

Make sure to do a walk through with your vendor! Pictures can always be deceiving online and you never know how it may look in person. Make sure to pay attention to the details you normally do not think about. How will guest enter and route through the venue? Are the bathrooms nice? Plenty of AC and heating?! Note if you prefer it to be warmer or colder.

Also, how does the venue handle a wedding. Is there a designated coordinator just for your wedding? Do they work with your vendors? How strict are they with time and the flow of the day?

4. Do not feel pressured

Do not feel forced to sign anything when you are visiting a venue. Make sure to weigh all of your options. What you like and do not like. Make sure to review all costs—ask what is included and what is not.

Don't be afraid to ask questions as you look at the venue. Before you leave, always grab the vendor's contact information in case you want to check on any other details later.
