Each week on Wedding Wednesday, we feature brides as they plan one of the most exciting days of their life. Today we feature Serina, a soon-to-be bride who is getting her wedding invitations from Live Love Last by PlasticPrinters. Serina also just so happens to be my sister-in-law!
Wedding dress shopping! One of most memorable days in a new bride's wedding planning adventure. It's a chance to grab a few special friends and family members and play dress up for the upcoming "Big Day!"
Recently I had the opportunity to look at wedding dresses with Serina, my engaged sister-in-law. A little background to our story. I started dating Serina’s brother, Brad, in our senior year of high school. Serina was only 6 years old at the time and I felt we had an instant bond—like I'd gained a new little sister.
All of my memories with Serina are very special, but my favorite pastimes with her will always be playing dress- up and seeing the sparkle and excitement in her eyes before she would leave for the evening. When Serina was in high school, I did her hair and makeup for all of her school dances. On my wedding day, I was so excited to include Serina in our special day too as a junior bridesmaid. I could not imagine my wedding without her by my side.
When Serina asked me to help pick out her own wedding dress, I could not have been more thrilled. We were back playing dress-up—this time for one of the most important days of her life.
How Serina Found The Dress
Saying "Yes to the Dress" was a memory we will both will cherish forever! Serina invited us to join her at Effie’s Bridal Trunk in Burnsville MN, a beautiful shop with many stunning bridal gowns.
When we arrived, we were greeted by a lovely woman named Di. She showed us to our seats and then help Serina pick out eight dresses, all a little different from the next.
The very first dress Serina put on was beautiful, it was perfect, it was the ONE! But how do you know it is the one? You have to keep trying on dresses.
A gorgeous ball gown was next. Then Serina tried on a mermaid style dress, but it did not pass the sit test. Some gowns were too poufy, others had too much bling.
Finally, we were down to two dresses. The first one and the ball gown. Naturally, Serina had to try both on again. First, she put on the ball gown. It was pretty, very bridal and Serina looked amazing in it. Then it was time to put that first dress back on. It was still the ONE.
Di took us to the “Pink Room” to view the dress in multiple mirrors. The pink room was lovely, Serina was just so exquisite in her dress. Di added a few details to pull it all together and Serina looked more radiant than I had ever seen her before.
It was an emotional moment. All the sudden we were not playing dress up anymore. She was all grown up and starting a new chapter in her life. Serina was no longer just my little sister, she was a lovely woman ready to take on her new life with the man of her dreams.
I am so happy for Serina and it was simply amazing to have been a part of her special day picking out her wedding dress.
